Ketamine has been widely used by physicians across the United States since 1970. When Ketamine is administered by an anesthesiologist in a very controlled manner, it triggers a sequence of events that help to restore and strengthen healthy nerve pathways in the brain.
It works by increasing activity in certain areas of the patient's brain.
It is fast acting and many patients experience marked improvements within days.
Each treatment session provides a deep state of relaxation which can have a long lasting positive impact on your well being.
Referrals are not necessary to schedule a consultation, but we will need medical records regarding your diagnosis and previous treatments.
You will need to bring a current medication list and any available psychiatry/psychology evaluations or notes. Imaging reports related to your pain condition are also very helpful.
The provider will go over your condition, previous treatments, current medication list, medical history and also complete a physical exam to determine whether or not you may be a candidate for Ketamine Infusion Therapy.
You will receive the ketamine infusion therapy in our clinic through a intravenous line (iv). During the infusion, you may experience floating, tingling, or mild hallucinations.
Infusion times vary from 1 hour to 3 hours. This time does not include check-in, set up or recovery time. Patients spend this time in our very comfortable, heated massage chair. We encourage patients to bring a blanket, pillow, music and headphones to help with relaxation.
You will be at the clinic until your vital signs and consciousness are back to normal. When that occurs you will be allowed to leave the clinic. A friend or family member must drive you home and should stay with you after. You should plan on taking the rest of the day to relax. Following the first series of infusions, a booster infusion is typically scheduled every 3-4 months for maintenance therapy.
Please keep in mind that most of the side effects are minimal and short lived, but they can include;
Unusual thoughts or feelings, abdominal pain, nausea, headache, temperature change, increased heart rate and blood pressure, dizziness, increased muscle tone, double vision.
You must have a driver to take you home afterwards. You also would need to have someone stay with you after the procedure.
Do not have anything to eat or drink the morning of your procedure.
You are to have no caffeinated beverages prior to your infusion. This includes coffee, tea and sodas.
Make sure to use the bathroom before your IV is started. You will not be able to use it again until after your infusion.
Bring a pillow and a blanket to make yourself comfortable and to keep warm during the infusion
Bring your preferred music, audiobooks or podcast as well as headphones to help you relax during the infusion.
Please reach us at 479-434-3600 or admin@ARpain.com if you cannot find an answer to your question and we would be happy to assist you.
We do not require a referral prior to a consultation with the provider.
We will be able to bill some insurances for the initial consultation. However, the infusion itself is generally not covered by insurance.
We strive to make this treatment as affordable as possible. The patient will be responsible for the $350 per infusion at the time of service.
Infusion treatments are approximately 1-2 hours for mental health conditions and 3-4 hours for pain conditions.
Ketamine infusions are performed in a comfortable setting in our clinic.
The minimum age for infusion therapy is 12 years old.
